  • Assembly 2026

Dear Passionist Family,

As we prepare for the June 9–11 Assembly, we invite you to take part in a pre-assembly listening and feedback process that will help ground our time together in a shared understanding of our mission, realities, and emerging questions.

The Assembly is part of a broader process of reflection and discernment as we look toward the 2027 Provincial Chapter. While the Assembly itself will not make formal decisions, it will play an important role in preparing the way.

During the Assembly, working groups will be identified and formed around key areas. Following the Assembly, these groups will work to develop concrete proposals for consideration at the 2027 Chapter.

Because of this, the quality of our preparation matters. This listening process allows us to enter the Assembly already attentive to the experiences, hopes, and concerns present across the province, so that our time together can move more deeply into discernment.

A Focused Approach to Listening

To honor the different experiences and perspectives within the province, we will be using a focused approach to gathering input:

Focus Group 1 – Reflection from All Assembly Participants

You are all invited to respond to a short set of reflection questions focused on the Passionist charism, our mission, current pressures, and hopes for the future. Some of the questions may feel familiar from past gatherings; this is intentional to ensure that our shared understanding reflects the experiences we have already had together while also being up to date.

Please respond to these questions at your convenience over the next couple of weeks, no later than April 20.

Focus Group 2 – Ministry Leadership Conversations

Those in ministry leadership roles will be invited into small-group conversations by video conference focused on the practical realities of ministry, including sustainability, leadership capacity, and emerging challenges.

Focus Group 3 – Vowed Member Conversations

Vowed members will have opportunities for dedicated conversations, also by video conference, around community life, vocation, and the responsibilities we carry for the charism in light of changing circumstances.

Focus Group 4 – Conversations with Younger Members and Emerging Leaders

A smaller number of video conference conversations will be held with younger vowed members and younger lay collaborators to ensure space for perspectives that are especially important to the mission's future.

Participation

All of you are asked to participate in Group 1. Some of you may be invited to one or more additional groups based on your role and experience in the Province. In cases where some of you might be included in invitations to three or all four of the groups, you are welcome to participate as fully as you are able, while also discerning where your participation may be most helpful.

What Happens Next

All feedback gathered through this process will be synthesized and shared in a summary report prior to the Assembly. This will help ensure that our time together begins with a broad and grounded understanding of the province’s current reality, allowing the Assembly to focus on deeper discernment and to identify the areas where ongoing work and proposal development will be needed.

Thank you for your willingness to contribute to this important preparation. Your voice and experience are an essential part of the discernment we will undertake together!

More information regarding registration for the Assembly and what to expect during our days together will continue to be shared by the Assembly Planning Team as preparations continue.

In the Passion of Christ,

Fr. David Colhour, CP
